TPA Portable Roadways is one of Europe’s largest suppliers of temporary access solutions. Operating from bases in the UK and Germany, TPA provides equipment rental and installation of portable roadways, walkways and stairways, to customers in the transmission, construction, rail and outdoor events markets.
TPA Rapid Rail Access is firmly established in the rail sector as the principle provider of safe, effective, value for money access systems. Providing nationwide hire of specialist temporary access equipment designed, approved and dedicated for use in the rail sector.
The type of temporary roadway system ultimately chosen for a project can depend on a number of factors such as the prevailing ground conditions or the site’s function. For example where there is a need for pedestrian access, a lightweight plastic matting may be used, or if there are stands and stalls to navigate around then a more flexible system may be more appropriate. However, there are certain demanding and challenging circumstances where only the most heavy duty panel systems will make the grade, and that is when aluminium heavy duty (HD) roadway panels will be the preferred choice.
Manufactured from high quality 6063 T6 Aluminium, the 3m x 2.45m panels can withstand a 250 tonne point load and 1000 tonne gross train weight over ground 2% CBR. These heavy duty roadway panels are suitable for many terrains; providing support over a diverse weight range and suitable for long term use. The panels are fully compatible with camber and steerable units making the overall design extremely versatile. The ability to operate in the range -50ºC through to 500ºC effectively represents a usable product in all temperatures and weather conditions.
A product spanning over 20 years, heavy duty aluminium roadway panels have a common use in outdoor settings such as car parks or airfields, and are frequently installed over vast areas of land to provide a safe and sturdy surface for heavy plant and goods vehicles. Their cross-cambered surface profile means personnel and vehicles are able to move around with a much reduced chance of slipping or skidding. Valuable heritage sites benefit from using these panels as they prevent the land being disturbed by heavy vehicles which would otherwise leave a long lasting impact on the landscape and the surrounding area.
Heavy duty roadway panels are easily transportable due to their flat formation and are stacked on trucks equipped with purpose made lifting equipment. A fully accredited installation team can install the panels at speed while working to a prearranged site plan. Scheduling the laying of HD panels is a very important aspect as teams will often work with fellow contractors to overcome the logistical obstacles of a project. For example, some panels may need early installation to facilitate the transportation of goods and services, while other types of access may arrive later for pedestrian walkways and other features.
The anti-corrosion properties of aluminium, together with a durable design, means that heavy duty road panels have an extended lifespan. The sectional box design allows for areas of panel damage to be easily repaired between hires to become quickly available for use once again. When the panels eventually reach the end of their useful working life, they can either be fully recycled into alternative aluminium products or made into more panels.
TPA has committed to investing in heavy duty roadway panels, ensuring sufficiently high stock levels to cope with increased customer demand. TPA believes that supplying top quality temporary access systems forms only a small part of the company’s overall business strategy, which also comprises an award winning transport fleet, together with highly motivated staff offering site surveys, skilled installation and ongoing project support.
